Emmanuel Asu Abang, a prominent figure and mobilizer for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Cross River State, has tendered his resignation. Engr. Asu Abang, a native of Aboc Ogbangante Village in Abo Ward, Boki Local Government Area, has a diverse professional background. An environmentalist, software engineer, seasoned system analyst, and community development advocate, he was a leading aspirant for the chairmanship race in Boki LGA under the PDP.
With a track record of mobilizing support and coordinating campaigns, Engr. Asu Abang served as the Cross River State Coordinator for Contact and Mobilization under the leadership of former Nigerian President, His Excellency Dr. Goodluck Jonathan. During this time, he worked closely with the Special Adviser on Ethics and Values.
Engr. Asu Abang’s expertise extends to the tourism sector. He served as a Tourism Consultant under the Ministry of Culture and Tourism in Akwa Ibom State, where he was responsible for planning, advertising, coordinating, and implementing the “AKWA-MBONO Festival” in December 2011. Additionally, he played a pivotal role in organizing the Calabar Arts Festival in collaboration with the Cross River State Tourism Bureau in 2008.
Moreover, Engr. Asu Abang’s contributions to agricultural development in Cross River State have been notable. He served as a member of the Commercial Agricultural Development Agency under the administration of His Excellency Ben Ayade. As an advocate for sustainable agriculture, he initiated the Calabar Agricultural Festival and organized the “Let’s Go Green Conference,” which focused on agriculture and youth capacity building.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Engr. Asu Abang is the initiator and national leader of two prominent organizations in Cross River State: the Wanboneh Support Organisation (WSO) and the National Youth and Women Patriotic Front (NYWPF). These organizations boast a membership of over 20,000 individuals spread across the state’s 18 local government areas.
