Bandits in Agatu Local Government Area in Benue State was the site of a tragic attack that claimed the lives of four individuals, including two soldiers. The armed assailants targeted multiple villages, including Abugbe, Okokolo, Ugboju, Odugbeho, and Olegobidu. The soldiers, who were stationed in the area as part of peacekeeping efforts, were ambushed and fatally shot during a routine patrol.
Eyewitnesses revealed that the attacks had been unfolding over the course of several days, with the situation intensifying in Okokolo. Godwin Edo, the legislator representing Agatu state constituency, confirmed that two villagers lost their lives in the assault, which was reportedly perpetrated by herdsmen. Mike Inalegwu, the former Commissioner for Information, Culture, and Tourism, disclosed that two soldiers had been killed, while another remained missing.
Efforts to gather additional information from the state Police Public Relations Officer proved unsuccessful. However, Joseph Har, the Special Adviser to the state governors on Security and Internal Affairs, affirmed the occurrence of the attack, albeit without specific details. Har stated that the deputy governor and security chiefs had been dispatched to the area to conduct an on-site assessment.
