The Internet Society has unveiled its prestigious Early Career Fellowship program for 2024, offering a unique opportunity for emerging professionals in the internet ecosystem to collaborate with world-renowned experts. Led by Professor Dr. Laura DeNardis from American University and distinguished scholars from the Oxford Internet Institute, the program equips fellows with project management, advocacy, and diplomacy skills, empowering them to become future champions of the internet.

Each year, a cohort of 15 fellows is carefully selected to participate in the intensive 5-month program. Through a series of seminars, events, courses, discussion sessions, and project work, fellows will have the chance to expand their knowledge and skills. Additionally, the program provides valuable networking, mentoring, and collaboration opportunities. The program will conclude with a closing symposium where each fellow will present their final project.

The benefits of the fellowship are manifold. Fellows will gain unparalleled access to renowned internet luminaries, enabling them to establish meaningful connections and receive direct support for their professional growth. Moreover, fellows will acquire essential leadership, communication, advocacy, and project management skills, empowering them to transform their ideas into impactful initiatives.

To be eligible for the fellowship, candidates must be early career professionals engaged in the internet ecosystem in a technical, policy, economic, or social capacity. They should have either an undergraduate/vocational degree or a minimum of three years of work experience in an internet-related field. Candidates with less than ten years of experience are encouraged to apply. Furthermore, applicants must possess an innovative and impactful project proposal focused on the growth or strengthening of the internet. Reliable access to a broadband internet connection and the necessary devices, as well as proficiency in verbal and written English, are also required.

Applicants must commit to dedicating a minimum of six hours per week to coursework, seminars, individual project work, and other program activities. They must also be available to fully participate in the 5-month experience and attend all mandatory seminars or sessions, taking into account time zone differences.

The selection process for the fellowship follows a specific timeline. Applications will open on January 17, 2024, and close on February 7, 2024. Fellows will be chosen by the end of March 2024, and the cohort kick-off is scheduled for the beginning of April 2024.

The Internet Society’s Early Career Fellowship program provides an exceptional platform for aspiring professionals to make a significant impact on the internet landscape. By fostering collaboration with industry experts and nurturing essential skills, the fellowship aims to shape the next generation of internet champions.
