Senate to Summon FCT Minister Over Insecurity in Abuja, Glitz TV Reports
The Senator representing the Federal Capital Territory, Ireti Kingibe, has revealed that the Senate plans to summon FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, regarding the alarming increase in insecurity in Abuja. Recent cases of abduction in the capital city have raised concerns among the public.
During an appearance on Channels TV’s Politics Today on Sunday, Kingibe disclosed that the Senate, particularly the FCT committee, intends to hold discussions with Wike and the heads of security agencies to obtain their strategies for addressing the security challenges.
“It is certain that he will be summoned,” Kingibe stated, emphasizing Wike’s role as the chief security officer of the FCT. She emphasized the importance of Wike presenting a comprehensive plan for protecting the residents of Abuja, which should be developed in collaboration with the police commissioner and the head of the Department of State Services (DSS).
While commending the efforts of the security agencies in responding to the crisis, Kingibe stressed that more needs to be done to combat insecurity in the nation’s capital. She expressed gratitude that the seriousness of the situation is now widely recognized, even though she had previously been told that her concerns were exaggerated.
“Catching the kidnappers is just a temporary solution. We must address the root causes of this insecurity,” Kingibe added. Data obtained from media reports and Beacon Consulting, a renowned indigenous intelligence firm, indicate that 69 people were killed and 152 abducted during 194 attacks by bandits and other criminals in the FCT in 2022.
Glitz TV will continue to provide updates on the Senate’s actions and the measures taken to ensure the safety and security of Abuja residents.
