Hon Olakunle Taiwo Oluomo, the Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, has been impeached with immediate effect. The impeachment comes as a result of various allegations of misconduct and financial misappropriation, among other issues, as stated in an impeachment letter signed by 18 members of the house and obtained by SaharaReporters on Tuesday.
In the letter addressed to the Clerk/HLS, the lawmakers highlighted the importance of the Speaker’s office to be an esteemed position, accountable to the honorable members and the people of Ogun State. They cited reasons such as gross misconduct, lack of focus and transparency, arrogance, poor leadership style, financial misappropriation, and incitement of members against each other as grounds for the Speaker’s removal.
In accordance with Section 92 (2)(C) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and Order 11 of the Standing Rule of the House of Assembly, the undersigned elected members of the 10th Assembly of the Ogun State House of Assembly have collectively moved for the immediate impeachment of Rt Hon. Olakunle Taiwo Oluomo.
