President Tinubu Warns Against Calling Hardworking Nigerians Yahoo Boy

President Bola Tinubu has expressed his concern over the negative labeling and generalization of Nigeria as a hub of cybercrime and corruption. Speaking at a Public Engagement on Youth, Religion, and the Fight Against Corruption organized by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and Vice President Kashim Shettima, Tinubu emphasized that such stereotyping undermines the integrity and diligence of the majority of Nigerian citizens.

Tinubu highlighted the lack of statistical evidence linking all Nigerians to internet crimes, stating that Nigerians are hardworking individuals who have made significant contributions to various fields worldwide. He criticized the misrepresentation of Nigeria and its people, stating that it fails to reflect the true essence of the diverse and resilient nation.

The President emphasized that Nigeria comprises honest and industrious citizens who excel in fields ranging from Artificial Intelligence to medicine on a global scale. He rejected the blanket stereotyping that undermines the majority of Nigerians who uphold principles of integrity and diligence.

Tinubu acknowledged the interconnectedness of the world and the global phenomenon of cybercrime, which poses a threat not only to Nigeria but to the entire world. He commended the EFCC for its role in raising the nation’s conscience and urged a proactive approach to combating internet crimes and other forms of corruption.

The President stressed the importance of trust and integrity in eradicating internet offenses and corruption, emphasizing the need for open communication channels and law enforcement actions aligned with justice and accountability.

Addressing Nigerian youths, Tinubu highlighted the numerous opportunities available for lawful enterprises within and outside the country. The government has established a Students Loan Board to address the financial needs of students and encourages the youth to seize these prospects, showcase their talents, and contribute to the nation’s prosperity across all sectors.
