In a groundbreaking move to promote sports development and environmental conservation in the Boki community, the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) Boki Chapter has partnered with the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) through the State Ministry of Tourism to organize the Gorilla NYCN Boki Tournament.
Building on the success of last year’s NYCN Boki Unity Cup, the organizers have rebranded the annual football competition to align with the mission of WCS – to protect the endangered species and lush forests of the Boki region. The tournament has been aptly named the “Gorilla NYCN Boki Tournament” to raise awareness about the importance of preserving the Boki community’s natural heritage.
“This tournament is more than just a football competition,” said the Chairman of the NYCN Boki Chapter. “It is an opportunity to bring our people together, showcase our talent, and also instill a deep appreciation for the biodiversity that makes Boki so unique. We are grateful to the WCS for their invaluable support in making this event a reality.”
The 2024 Gorilla NYCN Boki Tournament promises to be an electrifying affair, with teams representing various communities within the Boki Local Government Area vying for the prestigious trophy. The organizers have meticulously planned the event to ensure it not only delivers an exciting sporting spectacle but also serves as a platform to educate the local populace on the importance of forest conservation and wildlife protection.
“As a major sponsor of this tournament, the Wildlife Conservation Society is thrilled to be part of an initiative that combines the power of sports with the need to safeguard our environment,” said the WCS representative. “We believe that by aligning this football competition with our conservation efforts, we can inspire the youth of Boki to become champions not only on the pitch but also as stewards of our precious natural resources.”
Throughout the tournament, there will be interactive sessions, educational exhibits, and cultural performances that will shed light on the rich biodiversity of the Boki region and the critical role that the local community plays in protecting it. Visitors will have the opportunity to learn about the iconic Drill monkey, the endangered species that has become the symbol of the Gorilla NYCN Boki Tournament.
The Chairman of the NYCN Boki Chapter has called on all Boki sons and daughters, as well as other stakeholders, to rally behind this initiative and make the 2024 Gorilla NYCN Boki Tournament a resounding success. With more endorsements and sponsorships, the organizers aim to not only deliver an unforgettable sporting experience but also ignite a lasting passion for environmental conservation within the Boki community.
“This tournament is a testament to the power of collaboration and the remarkable synergy that can be achieved when sports and conservation come together,” the Chairman concluded. “We are confident that the Gorilla NYCN Boki Tournament will not only unify our community but also inspire others to follow in our footsteps and become champions for the protection of our natural heritage.”
