— In a decisive move, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) of Boki Local Government Area (LGA), Cross River State, has suspended its State Secretary, Hon. Anthony Edako, following a series of allegations related to abuse of office and violations of the party’s constitution.

In a letter addressed to Hon. Edako, dated 17th September, 2024, and signed by members of the Boki Executive Committee and PDP Stakeholders, it was revealed that the decision was reached after an extensive meeting held to deliberate on the Secretary’s conduct. Hon. Edako stands accused of violating multiple sections of the PDP Constitution, notably sections 58(1) (c, d, f, h, i, j), as amended in 2017.

Among the specific allegations listed are deliberate disregard for the official directives of the PDP state chapter, unauthorized alteration of ward congress results, and the replacement of legal names with those deemed illegal in certain wards. The letter also accused Hon. Edako of undermining the cohesion of the party by disregarding internal resolutions of the Boki PDP chapter. His actions were described as divisive and detrimental to the unity and leadership of the party.

Further, Hon. Edako is alleged to have engaged in anti-party activities, including the manipulation of ward nomination forms by introducing names of individuals who did not process their forms. The Boki PDP Executive Committee also raised concerns over nepotism, accusing Hon. Edako of appointing eight members of his family into the PDP’s ward executive council list in Buda Ward, contrary to the recommendations of the party’s leadership.

The suspension, which will last for a period of one month, takes effect immediately. During this period, a seven-man disciplinary committee has been established to investigate the charges against him and report back to the party. The disciplinary committee is expected to communicate with Hon. Edako regarding the dates and venue of its meetings.

The letter was endorsed by several prominent members of the Boki PDP caucus, including Rt. Hon. Barr. Mark Obi (Oku/Borum/Njua ward), Hon. Barr. Attah Ochinke (Buentesebe ward), Rt. Hon. Mrs. Itam Abang (Abo ward), Hon. (Chief) Joe Obi Bisong (Kakwagom/Bawop ward), Dr. Martina Apie (Alankwu ward), Hon. (Barr.) Brendan Obu Oweh (Bunyia/Okubuchi ward), Mr. Fabian Okwajie (Boje ward), Mr. Peter Otu (Beebo/Bumaji ward), Mr. Fidelis Ekpah (Ogep ward), Mr. Emmanuel Omang (Ekpashi ward), and Dr. Mark Nke (Buda ward).

The leadership of the Boki PDP has called for unity and adherence to party principles as it takes steps to ensure discipline and accountability within its ranks.
