The Senate Committee on the South South Development Commission (SSDC) has lauded the appointment of High Chief Ambassador Soni O. Abang as the Executive Director of Finance and Administration, describing him as “the man with the capacity for the job and the true engine room of the Commission.”
According to the Committee, the SSDC, established to champion sustainable development and regional integration in the South South, requires not only visionary leadership but also a backbone of accountability and sound administration. In this regard, Amb. Abang has been singled out as a leader with the proven competence, resilience, and deep understanding of both finance and governance to provide that backbone.
As Executive Director of Finance and Administration, his role is pivotal. He is responsible for:
Ensuring fiscal discipline and accountability in the management of Commission funds.
Coordinating administrative structures that allow for effective project implementation across the six South South states.
Building a transparent financial framework that encourages investor confidence and donor partnerships.
Strengthening the human and institutional capacity of the Commission to deliver on its ambitious development agenda.
The Senate Committee stressed that with Amb. Abang’s wealth of experience as a respected administrator, diplomat, and community leader, the SSDC is better positioned to fulfill its mandate. His reputation for transparency and hands-on leadership is expected to translate into measurable results for the region.
Stakeholders within the South South have also welcomed his appointment, noting that he represents the type of leadership required to navigate the region through challenges of underdevelopment, resource management, and youth unemployment.
