GlitzTV is deeply saddened to report the untimely death of Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu, a prominent news anchor, reporter, and producer with Arise News, who was killed during an armed robbery at her residence in the Katampe area of Abuja in the early hours of Monday.
Maduagwu, fondly known as Sommie among colleagues and friends, was 29 years old.
Born on December 26, 1995, she was a trained lawyer who transitioned into journalism, quickly gaining recognition for her eloquence, intellect, and unwavering commitment to impactful reporting. Her legal background brought a unique depth to her work, making her one of the most respected young voices in Nigerian broadcast journalism.
In an official statement, Arise News described her death as a devastating blow to the organisation and the wider media community.
> “Sommie’s voice is now silent, but her spirit, passion, and legacy will endure as part of our collective memory,” the statement read. “We remain in shock and call for a speedy investigation, apprehension, and prosecution of the culprits.”
The Nigeria Police have launched an investigation into the incident.
