Maduagwu, fondly known as Sommie among colleagues and friends, was 29 years old.

Born on December 26, 1995, she was a trained lawyer who transitioned into journalism, quickly gaining recognition for her eloquence, intellect, and unwavering commitment to impactful reporting. Her legal background brought a unique depth to her work, making her one of the most respected young voices in Nigerian broadcast journalism.

In an official statement, Arise News described her death as a devastating blow to the organisation and the wider media community.

The Nigeria Police have launched an investigation into the incident.
