In a recent development, sources within the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have disclosed that the passport of a former minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation has been confiscated. This action has been taken in an effort to prevent her from leaving the country and evading investigation into her alleged involvement in a financial misappropriation scandal.

Furthermore, it has been reported that the passport of another former minister, Sadiya Shehu, has also been seized pending the completion of investigations. The EFCC has been actively pursuing these cases in order to ensure a thorough examination of the allegations.

The former minister arrived at the EFCC headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday at 10 am and was still being interrogated by the commission’s investigators as of the time of writing this report at 7 pm. The EFCC aims to uncover the truth behind the N44 billion fraud that has been discovered within the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.

In connection with this investigation, it has come to light that the managing directors of three commercial banks were also questioned on Tuesday regarding their potential involvement in the fraud. The EFCC is leaving no stone unturned in its pursuit of justice and is determined to hold all those implicated accountable for their actions.

The scandal involving the former minister erupted after a leaked memo revealed that she had allegedly instructed the Accountant-General of the Federation, Oluwatoyin Madein, to transfer the sum of N585 million to a private account belonging to an individual named Oniyelu Bridget. The ministry claimed that Bridget currently serves as the Project Accountant for Grants for Vulnerable Groups.
