In related news, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and former Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, announced that his faction has complied with the directives issued by President Bola Tinubu during his involvement in the state’s political crisis. Wike made this statement during his visit to the palace of the Oba of Ogbaland.
Accompanied by Senator Sam Anyanwu, Senator Barinada Mpigi, Chief Victor Giadom, Timipire Sylva, Minister of State for Petroleum, Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, and Felix Obuah, Wike expressed that he has fulfilled all the conditions outlined in the peace agreement he signed alongside Governor Fubara.
President Tinubu intervened in the political crisis in Rivers State and facilitated a peace accord signing between Wike and Fubara. The meetings took place at the Aso Villa in Abuja on December 18, 2023. As part of the agreement, Wike’s camp pledged to withdraw all ongoing court cases initiated by Fubara and his team. Additionally, any impeachment proceedings initiated by the Rivers State House of Assembly against the governor would be immediately dropped.
Furthermore, the parties involved in the dispute agreed to recognize the leadership of Martin Amaewhule in the Rivers State House of Assembly, along with 26 other lawmakers who had defected to the All Progressives Congress due to their allegiance to Wike, rather than Edison Ehie.
