In a bid to have a say in who becomes the governor of Edo State in the coming gubernatorial election in the state, Edo youths have made a strong case against frivolous sentiments in making the right choice for the number one job in the state. In a gathering of different youth groups across the state in Edo South senatorial district, the youths rejected the claim by some shallow minded individuals spreading the sentiment that both minister from the state and state governor should not come from the same local government or senatorial district.
They wondered how such sentiment amount to good governance thus affirming that the eras of political brainwashing are over. In their resolution, they resolved that it is better for Prince Clem Agba to emerge the governor of the state not minding that he’s from the same local government as the current minister from the state. As for the youths, competence, experience, capacity and good governance are all that matters in the 2024 election and not where anyone comes from. To them, leadership in this era is all about service delivery and this can be asserteined through the antecedents of every candidate.
A leader of a youth group, Comrade Joshua Idaeho in his submission noted that it is when fraudulent manipulation is about to be committed by some people against the state that they tend to bring up unfounded sentiments. He wondered why people forget so soon that when governor Godwin Obaseki was still in the APC, he was from the state local government with the then minister that represented the state. He also reminded the youths that in 2007, governor Oserheimen Osunbor was also from the same local government with the then minister from the state. Other youths at the event supported his submission and came to a conclusion that where the governor or minister come from is not even a deciding factor in the coming election.
As the demographic constituency with the highest political value and power in the electioneering process in term of age bracket as confirmed from INEC register, the youths reiterated that they are no longer folding their arms and allow issues without any positive value becloud their reasoning in the choice of the next governor of the state. The majority of youths who spoke at the event lamented the hardship they are currently facing as result of the bad leadership the PDP government is currently subjecting the state to, hence used the occasion to call on the All Progressive Congress both in the state and at the national level to give them Prince Clem Agba as the only alternative at this time.
Furthermore, the youths promised to contribute their energy, time and other resources into campaigning and mobilising for the APC freely without any monetary or financial reward only if APC gives the governorship ticket to Prince Clem Agba.
