In anticipation of their Africa Cup of Nations quarterfinal match against Nigeria on Friday, the Angola national team has received rewards in the form of cash and material gifts.
Following their impressive 3-0 victory over Namibia in the Round of 16, the Palancas Negras were promised cash incentives if they progressed to the final stage of the tournament.
According to a report by the Angola Press Agency, Banco Angolano de Investimento, an Angolan bank, announced that each Angola player and coaching staff would receive a sum of five million Kwanzas, which is equivalent to approximately N5.41 million.
Furthermore, Aguinaldo Jaime, the President of the Board of Directors of UNITEL, a private mobile phone company in Angola, gifted each member of the Angolan delegation in Cote d’Ivoire an iPhone 15 with free calls, SMS, and internet access for a year.
In addition to these rewards, Sodiam EP, a company, pledged a significant amount of $250,000 to both the national team and technical staff if Angola secures a place in the final of the 34th edition of the Nations Cup.
The upcoming match between the Super Eagles of Nigeria and Angola will take place at the Felix Houphouet-Boigny Stadium in Abidjan on Friday, February 2, 2024, at 6 pm.
Both teams enter the match with unbeaten records in the tournament, with Nigeria claiming victories against Cote d’Ivoire, Guinea-Bissau, and four-time champions Cameroon in the quarterfinals.
It is worth noting that Nigeria is considered a strong team due to their recent form, which includes exceptional players such as Victor Osimen and Alex Iwobi.
