Let’s Go Green”: The Unveiling Of Cross River State Vision For Sustainable Development

May 25, 2024

Cross River State, Nigeria – In a bold move to cement its reputation as a beacon of environmental stewardship, Asorock integrated services has unveiled an ambitious plan to transform the landscapes of Cross River State into a veritable “green paradise.”

The state, renowned for its lush rainforests, winding rivers, and diverse wildlife, has long been a natural wonder. However, under the new “Let’s Go Green” initiative, the administration aims to elevate its green identity to new heights, harmonizing economic progress with ecological preservation.

“Our green heritage is not just a visual delight, but a testament to our collective responsibility to safeguard the environment for future generations,” remarked Asu Abang, CEO/MD of ASUROCK and the driving force behind the initiative.

One of the key pillars of the “Let’s Go Green” plan is the strategic planting of palm trees across the state. From the shores of Marina Resort to the mangroves of Bakassi and the hills of Obanliku/Obudu, these resilient and economically versatile trees will become the state’s new emblem.

“Palm trees offer a multitude of benefits,” Abang explained. “They can serve as a renewable source of income through palm oil production, attract eco-tourism, and even contribute to carbon sequestration – all while enhancing the aesthetic appeal of our landscapes.”

The initiative also calls for the careful selection and placement of trees along the state’s major pathways, from the Margaret Ekpo International Airport to the renowned Obudu Ranch. This greening of the state’s infrastructure will not only create a visually striking impression for visitors but also contribute to improved air quality, climate regulation, and overall environmental well-being.

The previous administration’s efforts to plant trees in the capital city of Calabar have laid the foundation for this ambitious plan. However, the new approach aims to address the challenges posed by the abundance of trees, such as falling branches and obstructed roads during rainy seasons, by strategically selecting sturdier yet safe tree species.

“Our national identity is deeply rooted in our natural surroundings,” Abang emphasized. “By embracing sustainable practices and leveraging the bounty of our green spaces, we are not only preserving our ecological heritage but also paving the way for a brighter, more prosperous future.”

The “Let’s Go Green” initiative has garnered widespread support from various stakeholders, including environmental organizations, local communities, and businesses. The state government is poised to work closely with these partners to ensure the successful implementation and long-term sustainability of the plan.

As Cross River State embarks on this transformative journey, the rest of the nation eagerly anticipates the state’s emergence as a model for sustainable development, showcasing the profound impact that a “green vision” can have on the economic, social, and environmental well-being of a community.
