A Reflection on Leadership and Accountability: An Open Letter to the Former State Chairman – Fabian Okwajie

November 17, 2024

I had been praying that God would help you complete your term as State Chairman, knowing fully well that you have never successfully completed any political office you held before.

Have you learned from this experience? One important lesson you should take away is this: never fight grace.

I vividly remember how you insisted that I shouldn’t return as Chapter Chairman, even though you lacked the authority to make such decisions, especially since you’re not from Boki LGA. You conspired with the panel from Abuja, doing everything possible to frustrate my return. Yet, today, the tables have turned. You are no longer the State Party Chairman, and you will never return to that office.

You are, without a doubt, one of the most difficult and unpleasant individuals I have ever encountered. I often wonder what makes you so antagonistic, as almost everyone who interacts with you complains about your abrasive character.

During my four years as Chapter Chairman, you never picked my calls or returned them. This wasn’t just peculiar to me; several of my colleagues expressed similar frustrations about your poor leadership and lack of interpersonal skills.

In your short tenure as State Chairman, you enriched yourself so quickly that it emboldened you to talk down on and disrespect everyone. I remember vividly when we first emerged in 2020 as chapter executives. At the time, you had no car and struggled financially. Some of us supported you, even assisting with transportation when you needed to go out. Yet, once we rallied around and helped you win, you turned against us and began fighting us without cause.

In every meeting I attended with you, I was appalled by your harsh tone and dismissive attitude. The way you talk down on people made me question your capacity to lead. Is this how a true leader behaves?

Recently, you misled people into getting involved in the local government elections, only to abandon them afterward. You went silent after achieving your goal of collecting money from them.

Sincerely, you are not a good leader, and it is disheartening that you have refused to change despite the numerous challenges and setbacks you’ve experienced. God has blessed you with opportunities, yet you repeatedly squander them.

Today, your tenure as State Chairman of the PDP in Cross River State is nothing but history. You have once again failed to complete the responsibility entrusted to you.

What amazes me most is your audacity to publicly attack Distinguished Senator Jarigbe Agom. This is the same man who stood by you and protected your position, ensuring you had the support to succeed. Your actions have proven how inconsistent and ungrateful you truly are.

Your growing ties with APC leaders are suspicious and suggest an ulterior motive. It seems your ultimate plan was to weaken the PDP in Cross River State, bury it, and then defect to the APC. This is consistent with your pattern of using people, creating chaos, and then abandoning them.

Under your leadership, the PDP has regressed significantly. Your poor handling of issues, coupled with your penchant for violence and a lack of decorum, has plunged the party into turmoil.

I wish you well, but I sincerely hope this experience teaches you valuable lessons about leadership, humility, and respect for others.

Fabian Okwajie.
Chapter Chairman Boki LGA.
