When the people begin to cheer for crumbs, power becomes deaf.
In the heart of Cross River State lies Boki a region rich in culture, resources, and loyalty to political ideals. Yet, despite its significance, the Boki Nation has become a loud voice in the wilderness, unheard by those it helped into power. The cries are real, the neglect is evident, and the silence of the political class is deafening.
Across the state, there are protests, movements, and calls for justice when local interests are threatened. Just recently, the people of Calabar Municipal stood in protest over the removal of a SUBEB Chairman. They made noise. They demanded. They refused to be ignored.
But Boki? We dance.
We sing.
We endorse.
While others clamor for representation and results, we celebrate political figures who have given us next to nothing in return. Since the unfortunate passing of our former Commissioner, Boki has remained without a replacement no political appointment, no infrastructural footprint, no show of gratitude for the massive support we’ve rendered time and again.
Where are the roads in Boki?
Where are the health centers, the schools, the bridges?
Where are the dividends of democracy?
We were told power would bring development. We were promised appointments that would translate to opportunities. We were assured of recognition, of inclusion, of progress. Instead, we got posters, praise singers, and dancing troupes celebrating political visits that yield no results.
Today, some of our leaders rally behind the likes of Eteng and Oden, beating drums of second tenures and endorsements, while the masses in Boki walk on untarred roads, drink from unsafe sources, and remain unemployed.
This is not governance. This is negligence coated in sycophancy.
It is high time Boki redefined its politics from praise to protest, from blind loyalty to strategic demands. Power is never given; it is taken. And until we rise to demand our seat at the table, we will continue to eat scraps from under it.
Let it be known: we are watching, we are waiting, and if nothing changes, we will not dance again.
The time to speak is now.
The time to act is overdue.
Boki deserves better.

Our politicians have just become dumb and deaf. It is unfortunate that all they know is thier pockets. They are lucky votes don’t count in Nigeria. They can continue thier children will wonder how we got to this point many years to come. Power is transient and ephemeral.
